Can you bore a 5.3 to a 5.7

They call them the poor mans 5. They made the liners really thick on those blocks, and they share the same stroke as the 5. Hope that helps you, I' ve got big plans for the local 4. Just because you CAN do something doesn't make it a good idea. Replies: 22 Last Post: , PM. Question: Boring. Replies: 34 Last Post: , AM. Replies: 0 Last Post: , AM. Replies: 13 Last Post: , PM.

By Frankthetank in forum Almost Anything Goes. Replies: 78 Last Post: , PM. Picked them up down in Oklahoma while i was getting paid to be there! I want hp at a min on 87 gas anything above that is just gravy. Funny thing is i asked the salvage yard guy why do i see or hear about so many 5. Is there a defect causing this. The guy said "nope, you see what happens is that the title gets too close to the insurance papers and the friction causes a fire" lol Oh boy!

Oh well! More cheap engines for me to squirrel away. I've got 2 garages now I am building a iron 5. The only difference I have found is that my pistons are 0. This is not a big difference unless you are wanting to run a really tight quench.

Just depends on head gasket thickness really. Originally Posted by remauto The truck cranks 5. Even the aluminum 5. Remember to have it all balanced afterwards. Also, keep in mind, the 5. You'll get a lot more bang for the buck out of swapping the cam Either any of the other LS family or aftermarket and intake manifold Once again, any of the cathedral-port intakes, but avoid the LS2 because it is a compromised design, or an aftermarket equivalent. If you're boring it out anyway, buying new pistons anyway, might as well pick up the cubic inches!

Knurled: I've seen conflicting info about the need to balance once complete. Did you have your LS1 combo balanced? I just wasn't sure if there was a need to overbore, or if you just wanted to have it done.

Some guys online say they just put together the rods and pistons and ran with it and as long as you aren't turning crazy RPMs it should be fine, but YMMV.
